LED packaging service provider Unity Opto Technology is expected to ship 20 million LED light bulbs in 2014, 2.86 times its shipments in 2013, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.

Since US Energy Star will put into effect stricter standards on omni-directional LED light bulbs in the third quarter of 2014, Unity Opto started production of LED light bulbs in compliance with the new standards in July and expects to finish Energy Star certification by the end of the third quarter, the paper noted.

In view of fast growing orders for LED lighting products from the US and Europe, Unity Opto has invested NT$1.23 billion (US$41 million) to set up production lines for LED light tubes, bulbs and lamps, with monthly capacity to increase from one million units initially to more than three million units, the paper said.
